ABOUT THE CLUB
The Mullumbimby Tennis Club has a strong heritage and is a unique story of locals getting together to create the premium tennis facility in the Byron Shire. Created in the 1990s, Mullumbimby is the largest tennis complex in the Shire with 6 courts and a great clubhouse located across from the community gardens.
The courts are managed by the Northern Rivers Tennis Foundation (NRTF), which is a not-for-profit volunteer-run organisation, with revenue going back into enhancing the Mullumbimby Courts facilities, leagues and the tennis community.
NRTF exists to enhance and protect community-led tennis in the Byron Shire and surrounds. That means taking a tennis first approach that ensures:
Venues are sustainable over the long term
Coaching and coaching-related services are appropriately available, diverse and affordable
Uneconomic offerings are subsidised through cross investment - i.e. competition, kids sports and training, high performance, social days and activities
Linking clubs and players across our Shire to ensure the best outcome for tennis, and moving against the siloing effect of competing groups
With council approval to build more courts, our group has ambitious plans for the facility, including upgrading the clubhouse, fixing the fences and building extra facilities including (potentially) hard courts, pickle and padel facilities.
NRTF also organises and manages the NET League, which consists of over 150 players competing in a weekend league across the northern rivers. Participating clubs include - Mullumbimby, Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay, Bangalow, Suffolk Park, Pottsville, Alstonville and Lismore.
